Bhubaneshwar, Apr 20: The summer heat in Odisha is reaching alarming levels as temperatures continue to surge across the state. On Saturday, 11 cities recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C, with Jharsuguda turning the hottest city at 43.5°C.
The cities that recorded over 40°C include Balangir (42.4°C), Titilagarh (42°C), Sambalpur (41.9°C), Sundargarh (41.8°C), Boudh (41.5°C), Hirakud and Sonepur (41.3°C), Nuapada (41°C), Bhawanipatna (40.8°C), and Rourkela (40.1°C).
After a day's relief caused by Nor'westers, the rising mercury has led to sweltering conditions and discomfort among residents in the State.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the hot conditions are expected to persist in the next three months, potentially impacting power grids and water resources.

✨On the brighter side, the IMD has forecast a normal monsoon this year, with a 33% chance of above-average rainfall. El Niño’s impact is expected to remain weak, which could bring more rainfall than usual to the state.
However, residents are being urged to take precautions during the ongoing heatwave, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and dressing in light clothing.
