Bhubaneswar, May 10: Odisha is experiencing intense summer heat, with temperatures soaring across multiple districts.
As of 11:30 am on Saturday, Sambalpur recorded the highest temperature at 39.2°C, followed closely by Jharsuguda (38.8°C), Hirakud (38.6°C), Balasore (37.8°C), Rourkela (37.6°C), and Bhubaneswar (36.8°C).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heatwave conditions may persist, urging residents to take precautions against extreme temperatures.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is expected to reach mainland India near Kerala by May 27. This marks the beginning of the seasonal rains that will gradually advance across the country, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
The IMD has advised people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and wear light-coloured clothing to combat the rising temperatures. Authorities have also issued heat advisories, urging citizens to take necessary precautions, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
As Odisha continues to endure high temperatures, residents eagerly await the arrival of the monsoon, hoping for cooler days ahead.
