Bhubaneswar, Mar 13: A heatwave alert has been issued by the meteorological department for eight districts of interior Odisha. The department has said that the heatwaves is likely to last for four days with the temperature may exceed 40 degree Celsius (40°C).
Starting Thursday, severe heatwave might continue till May 16 and it is likely to be accompanied by intense dry winds.
Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, and Boudh districts are under a Yellow Alert for Thursday (March 13) due to heatwave. Districts like Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Boudh, and Angul will experience the heatwave March 14-15. On the 16th, the Yellow Alert will continue for Sambalpur and Jharsuguda.
Over the next five days, daytime temperatures are expected to rise by approximately 3°C, although night time temperatures are not predicted to show significant changes. The heatwave has already made life uncomfortable, with daytime heat intensifying from 8 am onwards.
People are advised to take precautions while stepping out by carrying a water bottle and wet clothes, wearing light-colored clothing, and using an umbrella.
