Bhubaneswar, Apr 30: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted a review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan and assessed the redevelopment progress of various government medical colleges and hospitals in the state.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the redevelopment of SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack is currently underway with an investment of Rs 4,474.49 crore. The project is targeted to be completed by June 2026. After the completion of the first phase, the bed capacity will increase to 3,796.

The institution will be upgraded to the level of AIIMS++, bringing it on par with India’s premier healthcare institutions, said the Chief Minister.

Similarly, the Acharya Harihar Postgraduate Cancer Institute is undergoing redevelopment with a Rs 895.89 crore investment, which will increase its bed capacity to 1,127. Other major hospitals, such as VIMSAR in Burla (Rs 1,594 crore), MKCG Medical College in Berhampur (Rs 1,014.13 crore), and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar (Rs 5,958 crore), will also see expansions, with improved facilities and larger patient capacities.

The healthcare modernisation effort includes advanced medical services, new hostel accommodations, academic buildings, auditoriums, and better patient amenities, ensuring comprehensive healthcare support across the state.

The review meeting was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and other key officials responsible for overseeing the hospital modernization efforts.
