Samabalpur, Mar 4: A hardcore criminal, Mahesh Kumar, was injured and nabbed after he was fired at by police in an encounter at Ainthapali in Sambalpur city early Tuesday morning.

According to the information, Mahesh tried to escape by firing at police as soon as the latter intercepted him on the Jamadarpalli road under Ainthapalli police station limits at around 5.30 am.

With no option, police had to resort to firing. As a result, Mahesh received bullet injuries in his left leg. After encounter, police rushed him to the nearby hospital. Mahesh is out of danger.

Police seized a 7 mm gun, Rs 40,000 in case and a motorcycle from his position, informed SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamu.

According to the SP, Mahesh has been facing cases of loots and criminal activities he committed in Sambalpur and Bargarh districts.
