The family of Barsha Priyadarshini Das, who died by suicide, has alleged police inaction in their complaint against a youth accused of mentally harassing her. Despite repeated appeals to the Agarapada police station and the Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP), they say no substantial progress has been made.
Barsha, from Bodaka village, was found hanging in her room on November 12.
Her mother said, “My daughter had been in a relationship with Prashant Swain, son of Abhiram Swain from Bodakapatana village, for the past six years. I had warned her about him, but she insisted on marrying him.”
Her father said she appeared normal throughout the day, which coincided with Prathamastami, a festival significant for firstborn children. She had supper with the family before going to her room. When her mother went to call her a short while later, she was found hanging.

Later, we found her phone and discovered abusive messages from Prashant Swain. He accused her of immoral behaviour and sent sexually harassing messages.
