Koraput, Jun 19: The Odisha government ordered a large-scale medical verification exercise for 680 teachers who have sought transfers citing terminal illnesses affecting themselves, their spouses or their children.
The Odisha State Standing Medical Board in Koraput will conduct the examinations to verify the authenticity of medical claims submitted under the special transfer category before any transfer requests are processed.
680 Teachers Scheduled for Medical Screening
According to official schedules, the examinations will be held at the Clinical Lecture Theatre of SLN Medical College and Hospital, Koraput, following directions from the Directorate of Elementary Education.
The verification process will cover applicants from four southern Odisha districts.

A total of 125 teachers from Rayagada district will appear before the board on July 2, followed by 179 applicants from Nabarangpur on July 3 and 125 from Malkangiri on July 4.
Koraput district has the highest number of applicants, with 219 teachers scheduled for examination on July 6. Another 32 applicants from Koraput, under the primary, secondary, and mop-up day categories, will be examined on July 7.
Presence of Patient Made Mandatory
Officials made it mandatory for the patient concerned to be physically present before the Medical Board during the examination.
All applicants have been directed to report to the venue by 10 am on their allotted dates along with the patient.
Teachers must carry copies of their online transfer applications, proof of identity for both the applicant and the patient, original treatment records, and all medical reports uploaded during the application process. Photocopies of the documents must also be submitted for verification.
Board to Assess Eligibility Under Terminal Illness Category
The Medical Board will evaluate the patient's condition and determine whether the case qualifies under the terminal illness provisions cited in the transfer application.
Applicants will also be required to fill out a prescribed format and affix a passport-size photograph before appearing before the board.
The verification exercise is aimed at ensuring that transfers under the special category are granted only to genuinely eligible applicants.

District Education Officers Directed to Assist
District Education Officers (DEOs) of the concerned districts are instructed to inform all eligible applicants about the schedule and ensure their attendance.
The DEOs have also been asked to depute officials with printed copies of transfer applications and supporting medical documents to assist the Medical Board during the verification process.
The Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer, Koraput, termed the exercise urgent and called for strict adherence to the schedule to facilitate timely scrutiny and disposal of transfer applications filed under the terminal illness category.
