Govt Has Started Efforts To Accord Int'l Status To Cuttack Bali Yatra: Minister Tells Assembly

Bhubaneswar, Feb 21: Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Friday told the State Assembly that the State government has initiated efforts to accord international status to Cuttack Bali Yatra, which is organized every year to mark the rich maritime history of Odisha.


"The State government has initiated talks with an expert team of the UNESCO. We hope UNESCO will soon accord international status to the historic event, Bali Yatra," said Minister Suraj.

Suraj said this in response to a question from Congress MLA Sofia Firdos. The Minister said a total of 2,538 stalls had been set up during the last Baliyatra and revenue of Rs 6,38,26,446 was collected. Stalls were allotted through the District Collector, he said.


Responding to the suggestion of Banki MLA Debi Ranjan Tripathy, the Minister said efforts would be taken to install filigree stalls at Bali Yatra in the coming days.
