Bhubaneswar, March 21: India’s linguistic diversity reflects its rich cultural heritage, said Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati at the inaugural ceremony of the 11th Kalinga Literary Festival in Bhubaneswar, on Friday.
Kambhampati emphasized that Indian civilization has always upheld intellectual freedom and celebrated cultural pluralism. “Language is not just a tool for communication but a bridge that connects people and carries culture,” he stated.
The Governor highlighted literature’s role beyond artistic expression, calling it a force that shapes societies, fosters empathy, and inspires change. He noted that, in an era dominated by technology and artificial intelligence, literary festivals like Kalinga reaffirm the importance of human imagination and the written word. “Literature is not just about words on a page but about ideas that transform lives and societies,” he said.
Praising Odisha’s rich literary and intellectual heritage, Kambhampati acknowledged the state’s contribution to India’s cultural fabric. “Odisha has nurtured some of the finest creative minds in the country and has significantly contributed to India’s literary heritage. This festival honors that legacy while fostering new ideas and perspectives,” he stated.

✨He commended the Kalinga Literary Festival for its role as a cultural ambassador, promoting India’s artistic and literary heritage on a global stage. “It is heartening to see how this festival has grown, embracing diverse voices and celebrating linguistic and literary plurality,” he added, lauding the organizers for their dedication to providing a platform for writers, poets, and intellectuals.
The Governor also acknowledged the festival’s hybrid format, which allows global participation through panel discussions, debates, and conversations in over ten languages.
Concluding his address, Kambhampati encouraged participants to engage in meaningful discussions, explore fresh perspectives, and recognize literature’s role in nation-building.
The event was attended by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture & Tourism, Ina H. Krisnamurthi, Ambassador of Indonesia, Padma Vibhushan Sudarshan Sahoo, and K. Sreenivasarao, Secretary of Sahitya Akademi. Eminent literary figures were also honoured for their contributions.
