Bhubaneswar, June 25: The Odisha Crime Branch will interrogate six accused, now in remand, in the Gopalpur beach gang-rape case for the second day today.

The incident, which has shocked the coastal town in Ganjam district and sparked public outrage, occurred at around 10 PM on June 15.

The Crime Branch began questioning the accused yesterday, conducting extensive interrogations lasting over five hours at Gopalpur Police Station. The team is also reportedly planning a crime scene recreation to reconstruct the sequence of events and gather crucial forensic evidence.

A senior official confirmed that a late-night inspection of the crime scene was carried out to understand how the incident unfolded under the cover of darkness. “We are closely examining all angles, including the timeline and the roles of each accused,” the officer said.

The six individuals, apprehended soon after the incident came to light, were handed over to the Crime Branch for custodial interrogation following preliminary investigations by local police. Sources suggest that digital evidence, including mobile phone data and CCTV footage from nearby areas, may play a key role in corroborating the victim’s statement.

The survivor, who is currently under medical and psychological care, is being supported by a special assistance team.
