Puri, July 6: Amid chants and conch echoes, the revered Suna Besa ritual is set to transform the Grand Avenue of Puri into a sanctified golden corridor. Observed on the Ekadashi after Bahuda Yatra, this majestic event sees Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra adorned in elaborate golden ornaments atop their Ratha Yatra chariots.
Lord Jagannath shimmered in sacred splendor, wearing Shri Bhuja, Shri Payara, Kirita, Chandra-Surjya, Odiani, Aadakani, and ornate malas like Ghagada Mali, Kadamba Mali, Harida-Kadamba Mali, and Tabij Mali. His divine aura is enhanced by Swarna Chakra, Roupya Sankha, Trikhandika, Tilaka, Alaka, and Jhoba Ganthi.
Lord Balabhadra, the elder sibling, appeared regal with Hala-Musala, Shri Bhuja, Shri Payara, Chandra-Surjya, Aadakani, and Bahada Mali. His powerful presence is crowned with Bagha Nakha Mali, Sebati Mali, Trikhandika-Kamarpatti, and adorned with Kundala and Odiani.
Devi Subhadra, seated in serenity between her brothers, looks luminous in Kirita, Odiani, Chandra-Surjya, Tagadi-Duiti, Ghagada Mali, and Sebati Mali.
The ornamentation, crafted meticulously and preserved in the temple’s treasury, is not mere ritual but an embodiment of devotion passed down through generations. Performed by hereditary servitors, each gesture carries centuries of spiritual heritage.
As the deities bathed in golden light, devotees flood Badadanda, hands raised, hearts full. Suna Besa is more than spectacle—it's where tradition, faith, and divine grandeur converge in timeless brilliance.
