Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: If you are a gold lover, then be careful of when you purchase any gold jewellery. A data by the government reveals number of fraud cases involving goldsmiths.

Responding to a question, Krushna Chandra Patra, Minister of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, has revealed the data Wednesday in the ongoing budget session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly.

It's been five months since the state vigilance became very active under the newly-formed BJP government in Odisha. The state vigilance has so far conducted 3,125 raids across Odisha.

And from those thousands of raids, as many as 116 goldsmiths are among the corrupted people, who have come under the vigilance scanner.

Multiple cases have been registered against those goldsmiths, who have paid a huge amount of Rs 3,13,800 as fine for their frauds against their customers.

The data has also revealed that most of the fraud cases are from Ganjam, Khordha and Cuttack, stated Krushna Chandra Patra.

The data of Ganjam and Cuttack shows 17 goldsmiths were involved in fraud cases, while Khordha has 16 goldsmiths, who have cheated their customers. 

Most importantly, as many as 495 businessmen have committed frauds the previous year. A fine of Rs 15,30,000 has been collected from those fraud businessmen, said Krushna Chandra Patra.
