India’s Energy Transformation
India’s energy sector has seen rapid expansion. While it took 70 years to achieve one terawatt of power generation, the country now produces 2,000 GW in just two years. Electricity generation has risen from 1,168 billion units in 2014 to 1,824 billion units today, making India self-reliant in energy. Globally, solar capacity has surged from 2.8 GW to 130 GW in 11 years, placing India third worldwide.
Major Projects in Odisha
Odisha is set to host India’s first coal gasification project in Sundargarh at a cost of ₹80,000 crore. Paradip will see the development of a green corridor, while coastal regions will focus on wind energy. The state is also being positioned as a green hydrogen hub, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
Leaders’ Participation
Chief Ministers from five states, including CM Mohan Majhi, joined the summit alongside energy ministers from Delhi and Rajasthan. A brochure outlining India’s energy vision was also released, marking the beginning of the three-day deliberations.
