Berhampur, June 30: In a tragic development, the skeletal remains recovered from the Gasama forest under Chakapad police limits in Kandhamal district have been allegedly identified as those of a missing minor girl from Bhaluguda village under Bhanjanagar police jurisdiction in Ganjam district.
The remains, discovered on Sunday, included a skull and other skeletal parts. Local police seized the bones and sent them to the Brahmapur Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Institute (FMT) for post-mortem examination and DNA testing.
According to reports, the minor had been missing, and based on clothing found at the scene, her father, Jagannath Mallick, identified the remains as his daughter’s. He has since alleged that she was murdered.

✨Following the complaint, police have expedited the investigation. SDPO Sujit Kumar Nayak of Bhanjanagar confirmed that the cause of death and the identity of the deceased would be definitively established once the DNA and forensic reports are completed.
