Bhanjanagar, Sept 12: Odisha Vigilance, Thursday, has arrested Prasanna Kumar Swain, Assistant Engineer (Civil) in Irrigation division in Bhanjanagar in connection with disproportionate assets (DA) case.
Earlier Wednesday, the state vigilace sleuths had conducted simultaneous searches associated with Prasanna Kumar Swain on charges of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Based on searches conducted on properties of Swain, he was found in possession of multiple disproportionate assets.
His assets include "six multi-storeyed buildings, including one four-storeyed palatial building worth approx Rs 2.4 crore and another four-storeyed palatial building worth approx Rs 2.3 crore," Odisha Vigilance stated in a release.
During searches against Sri Prasanna Kr Swain, AE, Irrigation, Bhanjanagar, 6 Bldgs incl a 4 Storeyed Bldg (9000 sq ft- Rs.2.4 CR), another 4 storeyed bldg (6000 sq ft), two 3 storeyed bldgs (3000/2500 sq ft), two 2 storeyed bldgs (5850/1130 sq ft), 5 Plots, etc. unearthed. pic.twitter.com/MYVMwSynTU

His disproportionate assets also include "five high value homested plots, deposits over Rs 23.94 lakhs, gold approx 200 gms, etc, which he could not explain satisfactorily," the release added.
"Following this, Prasanna Kumar Swain has been placed under arrest and will be forwarded to the Court Thursday," the release mentioned.
In this connection, Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 18 /2024 has been registered against Prasanna Kumar Swain. More details are expected as further investigation is underway.
Earlier, simultaneous house searches had been conducted Wednesday by the Odisha Vigilance led by 7 DSPs, 5 Inspectors/ASIs, and other supporting staff on the strength of search warrants issued by Hon'ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur at his following places.
