Chikiti (Ganjam), Mar 11: More than five persons sustained serious injuries in a group clash between two villagers, which was erupted Monday over the opening of a river mouth in Chikiti in Ganjam district.
As many as 40 people have been arrested by the police, while the Ganjam district administration has reportedly imposed Section 144 (prohibition of the assembly of four or more people in a place) in the area.
According to reports, residents of two villages – Ramayapatna and Kutur – were having a discussion over a new river mouth. The discussion took an ugly turn when there was a heated exchange among the villagers.
The heated exchange led to group clash, where more than five people sustained serious injuries. Police have registered complaints against multiple people.
Police platoons have been deployed in both the villages in a bid to control the situation. Among the arrested people, 21 are from Ramayapatna, while 19 are from Kutur.
