Tragedy / Ganesh Idol Immersion Turns Tragic in Jatani

Jatani, Sep 27: A Ganesh immersion celebration in Jatani turned tragic late Saturday night when a portion of the Punjab National Bank building collapsed, killing one person and injuring several others.

The incident occurred during the immersion procession, which continued until late night with multiple idols crossing through the town. At the Post Office Square, the two‑storey façade of the Punjab National Bank suddenly gave way, reportedly triggered by loud DJ sound vibrations.

Crowds had gathered on both sides of the road to witness the immersion. The collapsed structure fell directly on people standing below, leaving several injured and one dead. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Harirajpur. The injured were rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that DJs were playing without permission. Commissionerate Police had earlier instructed organizers to conduct the procession with limited sound levels, but multiple DJs were operating illegally.

Following the collapse, Bhubaneswar DCP visited the site late at night. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the vibrations from DJ sound caused the structural failure or if other factors were involved.
