Bhubaneswar, Sep 1: On the occasion of its 43rd Foundation Day, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has announced a major boost to sports infrastructure in the city.

As part of its commitment to urban wellness and youth engagement, BDA will construct 20 football grounds across Bhubaneswar, with the first one inaugurated today at Kalinga Vihar K-9B.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, who emphasized the importance of accessible sports facilities for city residents.

The newly opened football ground, built at a cost of ₹5.5 crore, spans 2.30 acres, while an adjacent park covers 1.36 acres, offering a green and recreational space for all age groups.

Minister Mahapatra announced that all 20 football grounds will be inaugurated within the next one month, signalling a rapid rollout of the initiative.

These grounds are designed to promote community sports, encourage youth participation, and enhance Bhubaneswar’s reputation as a sports-friendly city.

Following the inauguration, the minister also participated in a tree plantation drive, reinforcing the city’s commitment to sustainability and green development.

This initiative aligns with BDA’s broader vision to make Bhubaneswar a world-class urban centre, combining infrastructure development with environmental consciousness and public engagement.
