Game-Changer for Puri Srimandir: Odisha Government Fulfills Promise, Deposits Rs 500 Crore Corpus Fund

Puri, Mar 26: The Shree Jagannath Temple, also known as Srimandir, has entered a new era of development with the addition of Rs 500 crore corpus fund from the Odisha Government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
One of the four revolutionary cabinet decisions of the current Odisha government, this fund promises to play a vital role in ensuring the temple’s future sustainability, comprehensive care, and progressive development.
It’s worth mentioning, that, previously, over the last 20 years, a corpus fund amounting to Rs 494 crores had been accumulated. However, the Mohan Government, upon assuming power, allocated an impressive Rs 500 crores in one go to the Srimandir, which in itself is a huge achievement.
This act by the government is a significant boost for Srimandir's financial foundation, ensuring the temple's rituals, operations, and developmental projects continue with enhanced stability and resources.
The fund will primarily serve to enhance daily rituals, festivals, and essential maintenance projects. The interest accrued will be utilised for Srimandir administration, including its grand upkeep, modernisation initiatives, and cultural preservation. This fiscal support ensures the temple’s autonomy while reducing dependency on irregular income sources.
Already housing three funds — Temple Corpus Fund, Shree Jagannath Temple Fund, and Srimandir Foundation Fund — the corpus funds collectively aim to make the temple's operational system robust and future-proof. This latest infusion further reinforces the financial backbone to cover growing expenditure due to ongoing beautification and renovation activities.
Srimandir’s Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee expressed profound gratitude to the Odisha government for this landmark step, underlining its importance for enhancing the temple’s spiritual and material wealth. With over two decades of cumulative contributions and strategic allocation of such funds, Odisha’s iconic temple continues to flourish as a beacon of faith and tradition.
