Gajapati, Aug 13: An assistant teacher at Khajuripada Primary School in Gajapati district, has been arrested by Adava Police for his alleged involvement in Maoist activities.
The arrest follows a long-pending case registered against him in 2011 related to Naxal violence.
According to reports, the accused teacher, Pratap Kumar Nayak had been under surveillance for years due to suspected links with a banned Maoist outfit. He was reportedly involved in multiple incidents of violence across the region and had evaded arrest for over a decade.
Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of Nayak, police conducted a raid and apprehended him from Nuakhajuripada village.
Nayak had been serving as an Ex-Cadre Assistant Teacher and was actively teaching at the time of his arrest. His name surfaced again during recent investigations into Maoist resurgence in the Adava, Mohana, and R. Udayagiri police limits. Authorities have also identified other individuals, including government employees, suspected of similar affiliations.
The Gajapati Superintendent of Police has issued warnings to those under suspicion, urging them to surrender at their respective police stations or face immediate arrest. A formal notice has also been sent to the Block Education Officer regarding Nayak’s arrest and the ongoing probe.
