Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Bhubaneswar witnessed a wave of grief as Odia music’s beloved voice, Humane Sagar, breathed his last at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Monday.  

 

The 34-year-old singer, often hailed as the “music emperor” of Odisha, had been battling severe health complications for several days.

 

Humane Sagar was admitted to AIIMS on November 14 after his condition worsened due to kidney and liver-related ailments. Initially treated at a private hospital, he was shifted to AIIMS when his health deteriorated further.

 

Doctors reported multi-organ dysfunction, respiratory pneumonia, liver disease, and kidney complications, which ultimately led to his demise. His mother, wife, and family members were present at his bedside during his final moments.

The news of his passing cast a pall of sorrow across the Odia music industry. Eminent singers, musicians, and artists rushed to AIIMS to pay their last respects.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief, calling Humane Sagar’s death “an irreparable loss to Odia music and cinema.” Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and several other dignitaries joined in offering condolences. Former Chief Minister and Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik also mourned the singer, recalling how his soulful songs touched countless hearts and how his contribution to Odia music would remain unforgettable.

 

Born on November 25, 1990, in Titilagarh, Balangir district, Humane Sagar hailed from a musically gifted family. Both his parents were singers, while his grandfather was a music composer. Influenced by his family, he trained in Hindustani classical and Odia folk music from a young age.

 

His talent shone through local performances before he rose to fame in 2012 by winning the reality show Voice of Odisha Season 2 on Tarang TV.

 

His playback debut came in 2015 with the title track of the Odia film Ishq Tu Hi Tu, composed by Abhijit Majumdar. From then on, there was no looking back. Humane Sagar lent his voice to over 50 films and more than 100 albums, creating a unique identity in both cinema and independent music. His magical voice resonated across romantic ballads, sad songs, devotional tracks, pop numbers, and even comedy songs, making him a versatile star.

 

From village fairs and Jatra pandals to grand melody stages, his songs enthralled audiences everywhere. For over a decade, Humane Sagar ruled the hearts of Odisha’s youth, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
