From Road Closures to Balloon Bans: Bhubaneswar’s Independence Day 2025 Advisory Unveiled

Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: Ahead of the State-Level Independence Day Parade on August 15 at Mahatma Gandhi Marg, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has issued a detailed traffic advisory to ensure public safety and smooth movement during the celebrations.

 

Traffic restrictions have already been enforced in phases since August 11, affecting Mahatma Gandhi Marg and its connecting roads. The advisory includes road closures, diversions, designated parking zones, and safety measures.

 

According to the advisory, the traffic restriction timings includes — Aug 11 & 12: 2 pm – 6 pm; Aug 13: 7 am – 11:30 am; Aug 15: From 6 am until the parade concludes.

 

These restrictions are issued under the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, and the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Traffic Regulations.

 

Key Diversions & Closures

 

Heavy Vehicles: No entry to Master Canteen Square from Ram Mandir or Rajmahal sides.

Light Vehicles & Two-Wheelers: Allowed from Rajmahal to Ram Mandir via Master Canteen, but no access to PMG Square.

Rabindra Mandap Route: Vehicles from Housing Board diverted at Keshari Talkies.

Designated Parking Zones

 

The Commissionerate Police have identified designated parking zones — BDA Bus Stand near Railway Station, Congress Bhawan frontage, IDCOL Auditorium frontage, Jaydev Bhawan frontage, SBI Unit-III frontage, Rabindra Mandap premises, and Unit-II Girls’ High School Ground — to ease congestion.

 

Safety Measures

 

The release of gas balloons between PMG Square and Master Canteen Square is strictly prohibited from 6 am until the event ends on August 15. Violators will face fines ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,000.

 

Police have urged citizens to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
