Balangir, Nov 4: In a dramatic turn of events, a unique wedding ceremony unfolded beneath the statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar in Bangomunda, Balangir district, where an accused lover, recently released on bail, married the woman who had earlier filed a complaint against him.
The couple, Suru alias Upendra Kand from Bagdora village under Belpada police limits, and Sangeeta Punji from Putulatlai village under Sindhekela police station, first connected through social media.
Their online friendship blossomed into love, leading them to
elope on August 4. However, the relationship took a sour turn when Suru
allegedly abandoned Sangeeta the next day, prompting her to approach Kantabanji
police.

✨Following her complaint, Suru was arrested and denied bail, spending two months in jail. During his time in custody, Sangeeta visited him and received a promise of marriage. Upon his release, both families, along with community elders, mediated the situation, resulting in mutual consent for marriage.
The wedding was solemnized in the presence of relatives and local intellectuals, with the couple exchanging garlands under Ambedkar’s statue — a symbolic gesture of reconciliation and unity.
