Bhubaneswar, Jun 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the development of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal around June 29. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form within the next 24 hours.
This system is expected to trigger widespread rainfall across Odisha and neighboring states through July 3, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds accompanying the showers, said the IMD.
The weather agency has also issued yellow and orange warnings for several districts, including Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh, cautioning residents about potential waterlogging, landslides, and transport disruptions.
According to the latest update by the IMD, a yellow warning has been issued for 16 districts, alerting local authorities and citizens to remain cautious.
The districts under the warning include Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh, where intense rainfall activity is likely to continue over the next few days.
The IMD has also issued alerts for June 30 and July 1, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of western and northern Odisha.
