Bhubaneswar, Jun 7: The Odisha government has announced a new initiative to facilitate affordable housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Odisha Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari stated that those constructing homes under this scheme would receive two tractor-loads of sand free of charge. A structured permit system is being developed to ensure easy access to sand and prevent illegal trade.

To protect roads from damage, authorities are considering alternative transport vehicles for sand distribution instead of heavy trucks, which previously caused deterioration under the PM Road Scheme. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is in progress to regulate sand transportation and allocation, ensuring smooth implementation.

Meanwhile, strict action against sand mafias has been promised following recent incidents of violent attacks on government officials.

Minister Pujari condemned such criminal activities and instructed the police to take severe action against perpetrators, regardless of their political influence. He reiterated that Odisha will not tolerate rising crime rates, assuring that authorities will uproot illegal operations.

In another statement, the Revenue Minister reaffirmed Odisha’s claim over Kotia, dismissing Andhra Pradesh's attempts to integrate the region. He stressed that Odisha’s sovereignty over Kotia remains intact, vowing continued development and welfare programs for the area.
