Khordha, Oct 1: At least four people, including a young woman, lost their lives in two separate road accidents on NH-16 near PN College in Odisha’s Khordha district late last night, police said on Tuesday.
Three Killed in Container-Bike Collision
The first accident took place near PN College on NH-16 when a speeding container truck collided with a motorcycle traveling from Bhubaneswar. The impact was fatal, killing three individuals on the spot. While the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports suggest they were residents of the Satashankha area in Puri district.
The container vehicle was intercepted by police at Pitapalli Square, and the driver was taken into custody. Police arrived promptly during night patrol, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination.
College Girl Dies in Hit-and-Run
In a separate incident, two college girls were crossing the road near PN College overbridge when an unidentified vehicle struck them. One of the girls died on the spot, while the other sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The identity of the deceased girl remains unknown.
On being informed, Police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
Investigation Underway
Both accidents have triggered investigations by Khordha police, who are working to identify the victims and determine the circumstances leading to the crashes. Meanwhile, local authority urged motorists to exercise caution, especially in high-traffic zones near educational institutions.
