Keonjhar, Jun 20: Police here have arrested four persons in connection with rape and murder of a minor girl in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
According to the case details, on June 16, the body of 17-year-old girl, who had gone missing from her home, was found hanging from a tree. Following this, family members of the victim, approached the police and lodged a complaint alleging that she was gang-raped and killed.
Based on the complaint, police launched a probe and detained two persons on suspicion, later based on preliminary investigation four people were arrested.
While a case under Sections 70(2) (gangrape), 103(1) (murder), and 49 (abetment) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of POCSO Act and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been registered against the accused, further investigation into the incident is underway, said sources.
Meanwhile, Laxmikant Pradhan, the IIC of Pandapada police station said, "We are investigating the incident from all angles. The autopsy will reveal whether it was a case of gangrape."
