G. Udayagiri, Jun 19: The officials of Vigilance Department on Thursday arrested a former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Saramuli, Daringbadi block, of Kandhamal district, for misappropriation of government funds.
The accused officer has been identified as Akru Majhi.
According to reports, it has been alleged that Majhi while serving in Saramul Panchayat siphoned off Rs 53,38,809, between 2023 and 2024, from the 15th Finance Commission (SFC) and Central Finance Commission (CFC) funds without executing any assigned development works.
Accordingly, a case was registered against the accused officer and was subsequently arrested.
Berhampur Vigilance team carried out the arrest and later presented him before the Vigilance Court in Phulbani.
