Former Lanjigarh MLA Shivaji Majhi Passes Away at 55

Bhawanipatna, Aug 19: Former MLA from Lanjigarh and a prominent tribal leader of Odisha, passed away at his native village Danariguda in Kalahandi district on Wednesday morning. He was 55.
Illness and Final Days
According to family sources, Majhi had been suffering from prolonged illness. Recently, he was admitted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar after complaining of chest pain. Following treatment, he was discharged and returned to his village, where he breathed his last in the wee hours of today, family sources confirmed.
Political Journey
Majhi began his political career at the grassroots level, serving as sarpanch and samiti member before rising to prominence. In the 2009 Assembly elections, he contested on a Congress ticket and became the first MLA of the newly formed Lanjigarh constituency in Kalhandi district.
During his tenure from 2009 to 2014, Majhi worked extensively for the development of tribal-dominated and remote areas such as Lanjigarh and Thuamul Rampur. He was instrumental in improving education, healthcare, and connectivity in these regions.

✨Following the formation of the Special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Council in Kalahandi district, Majhi was appointed its first chairman. He initiated several welfare measures for tribal and Dalit communities, strengthening his reputation as a leader committed to inclusive development.
Shift in Political Allegiance
After his stint with the Congress, Majhi later joined the
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and continued his political activities in Kalahandi. His
career remained closely tied to the region, where he enjoyed strong support
among local residents and party workers.

Tributes and Condolences
Odisha Chief Minister expressed grief over the demise of the former legislator from Lanjigarh. In a social media post, CM Majhi remembered the tribal leader for his commitment to public welfare.
Several legislators, parliamentarians, and social organizations have expressed condolences, remembering him as a leader, admired for his simplicity, affable nature, and people-centric approach.
