Bhubaneswar, Sep 20: Veteran politician and former Biramitrapur MLA George Tirkey breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

George Tirkey was a prominent tribal leader known for his grassroots activism and strong voice for indigenous communities. His political journey spanned decades, during which he served multiple terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Biramitrapur constituency in Sundargarh district.

Sources close to the family confirmed that Tirkey had been battling health complications for some time. Despite receiving advanced medical care, his condition deteriorated, leading to his demise.
