Baleshwar/Bhadrak, Aug 17: The flood situation is worsening on Monday in parts of Baleshwar and Bhadrak districts as water levels in the Subarnarekha, Jalaka, Budhabalanga and Salandi rivers rise.
The Jalaka and Salandi are flowing above their danger marks, while several villages, roads and agricultural fields have been inundated.
Baleshwar Flood Alert
The Subarnarekha, which remained steady around 4 am, started rising again around 6 am. Although the river is still flowing below the danger mark, several villages remain surrounded by floodwater.
Water has entered roads, residential areas and thousands of hectares of farmland. In some villages, residents are relying on boats for movement. More than 30 villages across eight panchayats in Baliapal block in Odisha's Baleshwar district remain inundated.
Meanwhile, the Jalaka is flowing above the danger mark at Mathani. Against the danger level of 5.50 metres, the river was flowing at 6.52 metres as of 6 am.
The rising Jalaka has affected more than 100 villages and agricultural land across 10 panchayats in Basta block and two panchayats in Baleshwar Sadar block.
The Budhabalanga is also witnessing a rise in water levels and is moving towards the warning mark. On Sunday, all three major rivers in Baleshwar were flowing below their respective danger marks.

Salandi Crosses Danger Mark In Bhadrak
The Salandi River also crossed the danger mark at Rajghat in Bhadrak district. Against the danger level of 17 feet, the water level stood at 17.70 feet as of 6 am.
As a result, low-lying areas have been inundated. Around four feet of floodwater is flowing over the Rajamukundapur and Matagajpur bridges, disrupting connectivity in the affected areas.
CM To Visit Flood-Hit Areas
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to visit the flood-affected areas of Dhamnagar and Tihidi on Monday. He is expected to travel by road from Bhadrak at around 2 pm via Mangalpur, Orali and Iswarpur to assess the situation.
