Bhubaneswar, Jul 15: The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre on Tuesday informed that at least five districts across the state will witness heavy rain and thunderstorm activities in the next 24 hours.

The weather agency has also sounded a orange and yellow alert for several districts.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall has occurred during the past 24 hours at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Angul, and Balasore of North Odisha,” said the IMD in its latest mid-day bulletin.

In addition, a orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur.


Residents are advised to remain alert and take all precautionary measures.
