Nabarangpur, July 5: At least five persons of a family fell ill after consuming wild mushrooms at Marangpali village under Raighar block in Nabarangpur district.
According to reports, the mushrooms—locally known as Pals Chhatu—were collected from their backyard and used to prepare a curry that was consumed by the entire family. However, all five individuals exhibited signs of food poisoning soon after consuming them.
They were immediately rescued and rushed to the Raighar Primary Health Centre, where two members—Buduram Gand and Dinesh Gand—have shown improvement post-treatment.
However, three others—Kumarlal Gand, Balakram Gand, and Siulal Gand—are still undergoing treatment under close observation.
Local health officials have advised villagers to exercise caution while consuming wild mushrooms, as certain varieties may be toxic or improperly identified.
Further investigation into the mushroom type and the cause of poisoning is reportedly underway.
