Bhubaneswar, June 26: A devastating fire broke out at the warehouse of Maa Tarini Bastralaya, a well-known garment outlet in Bhubaneswar’s Kalpana Square area, has claimed the life of a young employee.

The Victim, identified as Rakesh Sahu, a resident of Puri's Baniasahi area, succumbed to his injury while undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital.

According to reports, the fire erupted late Wednesday night, originating from the first floor of the two-storey commercial building after the shop had closed.

Locals noticed smoke billowing from the premises and promptly alerted the Fire and Emergency Services. Despite the swift response and deployment of five fire tenders, the blaze spread rapidly, gutting clothing stock, documents, and valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

Rakesh, who sustained critical burn injuries, was rushed to Capital Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a computer short circuit may have triggered the fire.

Notably, reports indicate that the warehouse lacked adequate fire safety measures, raising serious concerns about compliance and preparedness.

Authorities have launched a probe to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess potential negligence.
