Farmhouse, Gold, and Gun: Odisha Vigilance Raids Uncover Lavish Assets of BMC Executive Engineer

Key Points

Raids reveal a triple-storeyed house, farmhouse, and multiple land parcels in Bhubaneswar and Khordha.

Gold, vehicles, a country-made gun, and antler horns found; financial assets under assessment.

Vigilance continues valuation and scrutiny of assets, including an unopened locker.

Bhubaneswar, Jul 23: In a major development, ongoing vigilance raids at multiple premises linked to Jagannath Pattnaik, Executive Engineer, BMC, and his family have unearthed a vast array of assets, including high-value real estate, agricultural properties, vehicles, and valuables.

The searches, conducted by the Vigilance Technical Wing, are part of a broader investigation into alleged disproportionate assets.

“On the allegation of possession of disproportionate assets by Sri Jagannath Pattnaik, Executive Engineer, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, simultaneous house searches are being conducted by Odisha Vigilance at 4 places in Bhubaneswar & Gunupur (Rayagada),” reads a post by Odisha Vigilance in its official ‘X’ handle.

“6 DSsP, 10 Inspectors, and other supporting staff are conducting search on the strength of search warrants issued by Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. Searches are in progress,” the post reads further.

Among the most notable discoveries is a triple-storeyed residential building measuring approximately 4,560 sq. ft. located on plot No. RP-12 in Badagada, Bhubaneswar.

Additionally, a farmhouse spread across 1.57 acres in Mouza Ranapur under Balianta Tahasil, Khordha district, has been identified. The farmhouse includes a double-storeyed building (833 sq. ft.), a secondary house (570 sq. ft.), a fish pond, and a plantation featuring a wide variety of fruit-bearing and commercial trees such as coconut, banana, dragon fruit, guava, grapes, blackberry, lemon, mango, and red sandalwood. The property also houses a poultry farm with 15 chicks.

Items recovered during the search include a country-made gun and antler horns, raising further questions about the nature of the assets.

In addition to the farmhouse, three high-value land parcels have been traced — two in Badagada and one in Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar. The team also recovered approximately 200 grams of gold, a Maruti Grand Vitara SUV, a two-wheeler, and various bank deposits and financial investments, which are currently under assessment.

A locker registered in the name of Pattnaik’s spouse remains unopened and is under scrutiny. The Vigilance Technical Wing is conducting detailed measurements and valuations of all identified properties.

The scale and diversity of the assets have raised serious concerns about the source of wealth and potential irregularities.
