Boudh, Sep 15: In a tragic incident, a farmer lost his life while another was seriously injured after being struck by lightning while working in the farmfield at Dhalpur village under Harabhanga police limits in Odisha's Boudh district.

The deceased has been identified as Govinda Mahakud.

According to reports, Govinda along with one Tukuna Dehuri had gone to their farmland to apply fertilizer. Due to adverse weather, both were returning home when lightning struck them. As a result, both fell unconscious.

On spotting them, locals rushed to the scene and rescued the victims to the nearby health centre. While Govinda was declared dead on arrival, Tukuna is currently undergoing treatment at Athamallik Medical Center, where doctors have confirmed his condition is stable.

The incident has sparked grief and concern in the local community.

Villagers are now demanding compensation for the bereaved family, citing the risks farmers face while working in unpredictable weather conditions.
