Bargarh, Jan 31: In a shocking incident, a farmer was allegedly poisoned to death by his moneylender at Salepali village under Veden police station in Bargarh district last night. 

The deceased has been identified as Sadhu Sahu. The accused moneylender, Sunadhar Sathua, is a local BJD leader. 

Following the gruesome killing, tension prevailed in the area. Villagers, carrying the dead body with them, gheraoed the Veden police station and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. 

According to a complaint filed at the Veden police station by Sadhu's family members, Sadhu had taken a hand loan from Sunadhar for undertaking cultivation work on his agricultural field. He had repaid part of the hand loan. To get the rest amount back, Sunadhar abused Sadhu often. 

On Monday evening, Sunadhar along with his associate Sisir Pradhan, also a co-villager, forcibly took away Sadhu on a motorcycle to an unknown place. As Sadhu didn't return, family members searched for him a lot. When they went to Sunadhar and enquired about Sadhu, the latter hurled slang at them. 

On Tuesday morning, Sadhu was found in an unconscious condition in his agriculture field. Family members soon rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Doctors said Sadhu died of poisoning.

Following this, family members alleged that Sundhar forcibly fed poison to Sadhu, which caused his death.  They along with other villagers gheraoed the police station, demanding the arrest of the accused persons.
