Allegations against former minister spark political reactions.
Bhubaneswar, Sep 29: In a fresh twist to the high-profile Mamita Meher murder case, the family of Gobinda Sahu—prime accused in the 2021 crime—has urged Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to reopen the investigation into Sahu’s death in jail custody, officials said on Monday.
The demand for a CBI probe has reignited political tensions and drawn support from Mamita Meher’s family, who also claimed justice was denied under the previous government.
Sahu Family Seeks Justice
Gobinda Sahu was found dead in Kantabanji Sub-Jail in December 2022, with authorities citing suicide. However, his family suspects foul play and met the Chief Minister on Sunday, demanding a reinvestigation. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the meeting and assured that their plea would be considered seriously.

✨Mamita Meher’s Parents Break Silence
A day after the Sahu family’s appeal, Mamita Meher’s parents spoke out, alleging that promises of justice were never fulfilled. They indirectly supported the demand for a CBI inquiry and requested employment for their son. “If the Chief Minister calls us, we will go,” said Mamita’s father.
Allegations Stir Political Storm
Lipika Sahu, daughter of Gobinda Sahu, accused former Home Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra of involvement in both Mamita’s murder and her father’s death. She also alleged that the ruling party seized their property. Locals from Mahaling village backed these claims, citing threats and intimidation.
BJP MLA Babu Singh criticized the previous government for shielding the accused and emphasized the need for transparency. BJD leader Prashant Muduli responded cautiously, stating that legal consequences will follow if guilt is proven. The possibility of reopening the case has sparked speculation about deeper political ramifications.
