Bhubaneswar, Sep 16: Senior BJD leader Shreemayee Mishra has stirred fresh controversy with a cryptic and philosophical social media post that many interpret as a veiled critique of VK Pandian.

Her post, written in Odia, reflects on the concept of renunciation and the role of true ascetics in society, drawing parallels to contemporary figures who, she suggests, misuse spiritual symbolism for personal gain.

Referencing a recent web series by acclaimed Bollywood director Prakash Jha, Mishra praised its portrayal of genuine ascetics who renounce worldly pleasures and dedicate themselves to higher truths. She contrasted this with individuals in today’s society who claim spiritual detachment but remain deeply entangled in material desires and political ambition.

Without naming anyone directly, Mishra wrote, “Some who chant the name of Lord Jagannath for others end up falling themselves.”

Her post implies that certain public figures present themselves as selfless servants while pursuing personal elevation, a sentiment that political observers believe is aimed at VK Pandian, a close aide of BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik.

This isn’t Mishra’s first indirect critique. Earlier posts likening the party leadership to characters from the Mahabharata — including Dhritarashtra and Duryodhana — have already sparked internal unrest within the BJD.

Her latest remarks have reignited debates about the growing influence of unelected advisors and the silencing of veteran voices within the party. While the BJD has not officially responded, insiders suggest that Mishra’s discontent stems from being sidelined in recent electoral decisions.

As Odisha heads into a politically charged season, Mishra’s words may resonate with other dissenting voices within the party, potentially signalling deeper fissures beneath the surface.
