Fake Darshan Websites Busted in Puri; Police Seek Crime Branch Help

Key Points

Pujapariseva.com and India Thrills falsely offered paid darshan and puja services at Shree Jagannath Temple.

Cases registered at Singhadwar and Cyber Police Stations; Crime Branch joins investigation. Devotees urged to use only official temple websites and report scams immediately.

Puri, Sep 1: Puri Police, in coordination with the Crime Branch, has launched a full-scale investigation into multiple fake websites falsely offering paid puja and VIP darshan services at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple.

The crackdown follows complaints filed at Singhadwar and Cyber Police Stations against two fraudulent portals — pujapariseva.com and India Thrills.

According to officials, these websites misled devotees by advertising “special puja services” and “VIP darshan” packages, charging amounts ranging from ₹50 to ₹500. The sites falsely claimed to facilitate direct access to temple rituals and even listed offerings like dry prasad.

However, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has clarified that darshan at the temple is entirely free, and no such paid services exist.

Puri SP Prateek Singh confirmed that the matter is under active investigation and warned devotees to remain vigilant. “We’ve identified multiple fake websites exploiting religious sentiments. Strict action will be taken against those responsible,” he said. He also urged the public to rely only on official temple and government websites for any information or bookings.

The police have appealed to devotees and tourists not to fall prey to such scams and to report suspicious activity immediately. For cyber fraud complaints, citizens can contact the Cyber PS at 8280491300, and for tourism-related assistance, dial 112 or the Tourism Helpline at 6370967100.

The SJTA and Puri Police have reiterated their commitment to preserving the sanctity of the temple and ensuring that devotees are not exploited in the name of faith.
