Puri, Jan 21: Puri’s revered Jagannath Temple has come under heightened security after a threatening post surfaced on Facebook claiming the shrine would be blown up.

The alarming message has sparked outrage among devotees and servitors, prompting swift action from the district police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh confirmed that the post appeared on a Facebook account two to three days ago. “We immediately sent a letter to Facebook seeking details of the account. A special team has been formed to trace the origin of the post and identify the person behind it,” Singh said.

Following the threat, police have intensified security measures around the temple. Entry and exit points are being closely monitored, with temple security forces and police personnel maintaining strict vigilance.

Bomb disposal squads and BD teams are conducting routine checks to ensure safety. “We are leaving no stone unturned. All units are on high alert,” the SP added.

Meanwhile, several suspects have been detained for questioning as investigators attempt to track the IP address linked to the post. Authorities are probing whether the name “Julie Rani Panda,” mentioned in the Facebook account, belongs to a local resident or is being used as a cover by miscreants.

Servitors of the temple expressed strong disapproval of the incident, calling it an attack on religious sentiments. “This is a condemnable act. Threatening to blow up the temple hurts the faith of millions. Strict action must be taken against those responsible,” one servitor said.

The police have assured devotees that the temple remains safe and that all necessary precautions are in place. The investigation continues, with officials determined to bring the culprits to justice.
