Explosive Warehouses in Odisha Operate with Just One Guard, Security Risks Exposed

Key Points

Exclusive revelation exposes alarming security lapses in Odisha’s explosive storage facilities.

Sundargarh, May 30: A shocking revelation has emerged regarding the security vulnerabilities of explosive warehouses in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

Speaking to Argus News, a security guard said that four explosive storage facilities have been operating with only one guard – the security guard himself – for the past four years, raising serious concerns about safety and compliance.

The warehouses, located deep within the forest region, store highly volatile materials, yet Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for security appear to be grossly neglected.

The security guard, who has been stationed at one of the warehouses, disclosed that previous incidents of attempted theft had occurred, but the owners failed to implement stricter security measures.

One such incident took place on the Titilagarh route, where criminals intercepted a vehicle transporting explosives. Fortunately, the truck was empty at the time, preventing a major theft. However, the lack of reinforced security protocols has raised concerns about potential future breaches.

The warehouse owners’ negligence in securing these facilities has sparked outrage, with experts questioning why SOPs are not being enforced and why security personnel have not been strengthened despite past incidents.

The situation has prompted calls for government intervention to ensure strict regulatory oversight and prevent any catastrophic security failures.
