Angul, Aug 22: A powerful explosion rocked the NTPC thermal power station at Kaniha block in Odisha’s Angul district late Friday night, triggering panic among workers and residents nearby. The blast occurred in Bunker‑B of the plant, though the exact cause remains unclear.

Officials said that five workers sustained injuries in the incident. Two of them, reported to be in critical condition, were rushed to Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment at a medical facility. The remaining three are undergoing treatment at the NTPC medical centre.

While preliminary reports suggest a sudden blast inside the bunker, the reason behind the explosion is yet to be established. NTPC authorities have initiated an internal inquiry, and district officials are expected to join the investigation to ascertain lapses, if any.
