Rourkela, Jan 12: In a shocking incident, , Nelson Bhingra, a former activist of the outlawed Maoist organisation, was shot dead in his Ichapidi village in Jharkahnd early this morning. 
Bhingra had quit the Naxalism in May following a two-month imprisonment. Since then Maoists had been suspecting him as a police informant and warning him of dire consequences.   

Finally, Bhingra became the target of the Maoists' brutal attack on the wee hours on Friday. The circumstances surrounding his death have cast a shadow of fear over the safety of police informants in the region.
The incident has ignited demands for better protection of informants, raising critical questions about the effectiveness of existing measures.
