Bhubaneswar, Sep 28: The Excise Department’s relentless crackdown on illicit liquor and narcotics continued to yield results on the 27th day of its statewide Enforcement Special Drive, with seizures valued at ₹1.77 crore.
According to official data, enforcement teams registered 266 cases and arrested 99 individuals involved in illegal activities. The operation led to the confiscation of 21,449 bulk litres (BL) of illicit distilled (ID) liquor and 541 BL of duty-paid liquor. Authorities also destroyed 1,89,882 BL of wash used in the production of ID liquor, dealing a major blow to underground manufacturing units.
In a significant breakthrough under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, nine cases were registered, resulting in the seizure of 60 kg of ganja and 221 grams of heroin. Additionally, four litres of duplicate foreign liquor were recovered, and eight vehicles used for transporting contraband were impounded.

✨Officials emphasized that the sustained drive reflects the Department’s commitment to eradicating the menace of illicit liquor and narcotic substances across Odisha. “This campaign is not just about enforcement — it’s about protecting public health, ensuring safety, and dismantling criminal networks,” said a senior official.
The Excise Department has been conducting the drive across urban and rural pockets, targeting hotspots known for illegal brewing and drug trafficking.
With the campaign showing consistent results, authorities
are expected to continue the drive, aiming to further tighten the noose around
violators and ensure a safer environment for citizens.
