Bhubaneswar, Apr 8: In a major jolt to the ruling Biju Janata Dal, former Bargarh MP Prabhas Kumar Singh resigned from the party today, putting a challenge to the party to win the seat this year. 

He cited negligence as the reason behind his resignation.  

Talking to media persons, Singh said the Biju Janata Dal has started shrinking in the State with the entry of 'imported' leaders. The party has lacked democratic and cultural values after 2019.  

"Winning elections is no democracy. People's desires and aspirations are not being fulfilled. Democracy has lost its shine in the BJD. The party has started shrinking," alleged Singh. 

He said the party is now giving priority to 'imported' people and neglecting those who have given blood and sweat to the party for many years.

"I worked for people during my MP stint from 2014 to 2019. Thus, people wanted me to fight and win the LS seat again. But the party didn't give me a ticket in 2019. People gave a befitting reply then. Party candidate Prasanna Acharya was defeated in 2019. This year, the party has committed the mistake again. The party will face a similar fate this year too, contended Singh. 

Stating that an imported coterie is working against him, Singh threw a spanner challenging the party to win the election to the Bargarh seat if it can.
