Puri, Jan 13: The historic Netaji Subhas Bose Bhawan, which has already been declared a museum, has developed cracks on the walls and roof of its first floor, much to the dismay of visitors.
The Bose Bhawan, which stands as a witness to Forward Bloc's secret meetings, is in unsafe condition.
Subhas Bose's father Janakinath Bose had bought 0.434 acres of land at Sarada Devi Road on a lease basis in 1916. He had also built a two-storied building here like his residential edifice in Cuttack. The entire family would stay in the building whenever they visited Puri. The house was named after Subhas Chandra Bose in 1946, eight years after his father died in 1938.
The Bose Bhawan was upgraded to a museum following renovation works done at Rs 4 crore. A visitor's gallery was built and a water fountain was installed as part of renovation work. However, the walls and roof have developed cracks due to a lack of maintenance. The situation worsened after the Fani Cyclone.

✨Though locals raised their voices against the 'lackadaisical attitude' of the concerned authorities before last year's Subhas Bose Jayanti, no headway has been marked even as a year has passed and another Bose Jayanti approached.
"The Government sanctioned Rs 6.74 crore for renovation of the Subhas Bose Bhawan after complaints. But the announcement has remained locked in pen and paper only. No repair work has been made," alleged a resident.
Rain water is being leaked through the roof and the walls are soaking water to inside in the rainy seasons. The walls have developed cracks. They all need to be repaired and painted as soon as possible.
