End Of An Era- Cuttack Deer Park To Shut Down, Stags To Be Shifted To Chandaka Jungle

Cuttack, Jan 3: The iconic Deer Park is an emotion and is going to shut down soon. The Forest department has started shifting deer from the overcrowded park to a temporary rescue centre (special enclosure) set up at Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary.

According to reports, 30 deer have already been shifted in two phases to a temporary rescue centre (special enclosure) at Ambilo spread over 3.5 hectares of forest land within Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The entire process is expected to be completed within a month.

The translocation process would be carried out in phases, Cuttack City DFO Ajit Kumar Satapathy told the media.

The Deer Park in Cuttack was established over 2.5 acres on the banks of the Mahanadi River in 1981. The park which was established with only five deer now has a population of 296.

While many in Cuttack are unhappy over the closure of the Deer Park.
