Empowering Women & Education: Odisha Boosts Hostel Facilities In Universities For Female Students

Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: In a move to strengthen educational infrastructure for women, the Odisha government has allocated significant funds to enhance hostel facilities in universities and autonomous colleges across the state.
With over 77,722 female students currently enrolled in various institutions, this initiative aims to ensure safe and quality accommodation.
Excluding Odisha State Open University and Madhusudan Law University, 15 universities and autonomous colleges currently provide hostel accommodation for 20,540 female students.
Efforts are underway to modernize and expand these facilities. Key projects include:
Utkal University Rural Campus Women's Hostel: ₹9.6 crores
Utkal University Ladies Hostel Renovation: ₹5.06 crores
Ramadevi Women's University Ananya Hostel: ₹1.46 crores
Manikeswari University SC/ST Ladies Hostel (300 beds): ₹8.36 crores
Dharanidhar University (300 beds): ₹11 crores
Renovation of Khallikote PG Hostel: ₹31.83 lakhs
Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj presented this data during the ongoing assembly session on Friday, emphasising the state’s commitment to empowering women through education.
By addressing critical infrastructure gaps, the government hopes to support women’s academic journeys and inspire greater participation in higher education.
