Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Eminent Odia film actor Uttam Mohanty passed away late on Thursday night. He was 67.


His actor wife Aparajita, actor son Babusan Mohanty and daughter-in-law Trupti were present at his death bed.


The ‘Abhiman’ actor, Mohany had been ailing for long. He was suffering from liver cirrhosis and undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Gurugram for about a month.

Actors, political leaders and common masses have condoled his death. Born on Dec 23, 1958 at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district, Mohanty rose to be an actor following his college education.


He is well remembered for films like Abhiman, ‘Phula Chandan’, ‘Jhiati Sita Pari’, Sahari Bagha, Puja Phula, Suhag Sindoor, Jor Jar Mulak Tar, Ei Ama Sansar, Kapal Likhan, Janani, Samaya Bada Balaban and Danda Balunga.


He was conferred with Odia Cinema’s highest honour “Jayadev Puraskar” in 1999. Expressing deep grief over his passing away, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said Mohany will be cremated with full State honour.
